This unique 14oz (4.75" tall) cat butt mug was glaze fired in a wood-burner salt fire kiln. The orange area on the bottom looks rough, but is pleasant in the hand.
Salt fire glazing is a ceramics technique where pottery is fired with the addition of salt. This process creates unique, unpredictable surface effects, including varied colors, textures, and a glossy finish, resulting in distinctive and artistic pieces. This process is more costly than normal firing, so salt fired pieces are priced slightly higher to compensate.
My Salt fired pieces were fired in a wood burning kiln. The dots on the bottom of the pots are from the wadding used to keep the glaze created by the salt from fusing the pot to the kiln shelf.
